he had four teeth pulled 😳

If you're new here (hi!πŸ‘‹), we've had a bit of a saga with Winston and his fractured teeth and, after sharing this with the lovely readers of this newsletter, have discovered *so much* about the risk of hard chews (including Yak chews, hooves, etc,), the "fingernail test", whether fillings are ever a good idea, and so much more. You can catch up on all of that in last week's newsletter. Yesterday afternoon, I collected Winston from the vets after his tooth extraction. He was supposed to have...

there are no royal corgis without her! πŸ‘‘

How is your summer going? I hope it has featured ice cream and maybe some splashing around in the sea/a pool (maybe your corgi loves water unlike mine? 🀭) Photos of your summery adventures together are always welcome! The UK, like many countries around the world, has experienced some terrible heatwaves and subsequent wildfires. It's scary to see the effect of climate change and much as I hate winter, I wish the weather wasn't so extreme. That being said, Winston and I have had plenty of fun...

the dog chew "fingernail test" I wish I'd known

In the 3+ years I've been sending out these weekly newsletters (thank you so much if you've been here since the start! πŸ₯Ή), I don't think I've ever had such an incredible response to an email as I did last week. So many of you reached out about your experiences with fractured teeth and extractions. The stories and advice you shared were invaluable and for that, I am so grateful. If you're brand new here, last week's newsletter is linked here for you to catch up on Winston's teeth drama. Just...

two fractured teeth?! 😩

Last week I was emailing you about sweet vet experiences I'd stumbled across online and now, in a twist of irony, I'm emailing you about my less-than-sweet visit to the vet with Winston on Tuesday. It was for a regular, annual check-up and to collect our next batch of flea tablets. All was going well, Winston was receiving lots of treats, and the vet even commented on how lovely and white his teeth are! Great to know the regular tooth-brushing is paying off... And then the vet paused. Checked...

the cutest exchange with the vet 🫢🏼

How does your corgi feel about the vet? Winston generally feels pretty good about ours! As soon as he realises it's somewhere he'll get treats (which is about thirty seconds after he arrives πŸ˜…), he settles in nicely, wags his tail and begs the lovely nurses and vets for more... He was even acting this way back in February when he'd really hurt his leg (and we thought something more serious was going on πŸ₯Ή). You can read more about that experience here. Anyway, I came across this wonderful...

He almost stole my cake 😳

Yesterday was my birthday and though I was working, I did manage to take several cake and cuddle breaks with Winston πŸ˜‰ That slice of cake pictured below is from a British business called Get Baked. They sell enormous slices of chocolate cake β€” named β€œBruce" and "Bertha" β€” based on Bruce Bogtrotter's cake in Matilda. Isn’t it amazing?? I couldn’t manage the entire slice in one go of course. I had to take several small bites and have lots left over in the fridge for today. Spot the naughty...

it's a corgi mosh pit

As I write to you now, it's 35 degrees celsius in London. That's 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Too hot for me. Too hot for Winston πŸ”₯ We're not used to these temperatures! As many of you may know, Brits love to moan about the weather and when we're not moaning about the cold and the dark (which is 95% of the time), we're moaning about the extreme heat (1% of the time). So yes, for about 4% of the time we're enjoying nice, reasonably warm weather conditions and not talking about it... Jeez, I'm even...

The year the corgi nearly disappeared πŸ‘‘

Does your corgi do this too? Please excuse the grubby wall behind my husband's desk (we need to clean this!) but Winston has recently starting curling up beneath his desk while he works. Not his usual spot! He can usually be found in his bed next to me or - illegally - on top of our bed when no-one's watching. Of course I began frantically Googling whether this was a sign of something more sinister (hello, dog mum), but apparently it's not! It may be that it's a little warmer in the UK and...

How I'm keeping Winston young 🐣

Since Winston's CT scan came back clear a few weeks ago, even more people have stopped us in the street/in the park to comment on how young he looks. Seven years old and still got it! Besides good luck, I think his spritely looks/nature comes down to a few things: homemade food with a nutritional powder every morning, keeping his weight in check (we always get told how slim he looks for a corgi), and regular scent games β€” hiding kibble around the apartment, wrapping treats in a towel for him...

Happy International Corgi Day! πŸŽ‰

Today is a good day because a) It's International Corgi Day!!!! πŸŽ‰ and b) I have a very funny/mildly inappropriate (?) photo to share of Winston, taken by his lovely dog sitter. In case you missed our last email, my husband and I spent last week in Spain for a friend's wedding. It was gorgeous. Lots of sangria and tapas was consumed... Meanwhile, Winston was having the time of his life with a dog sitter back in London. I mean... just look at the photo evidence! Mummy, who?! 🀣 Snoot boops and...
